Views on Finance

I am sure most of you like to write about your adventures that you did or once tried when you were growing up. Well this is what I am doing today. When I was about 25 or so, I was working for a telemarketing place and they wanted everyone to be licensed insurance agents.

Here I am thinking to myself, a company that is going to pay me to go school and I am going to be learning about insurance. What more could I ask for, I was thinking? I will not be going to work for 2 weeks and will be away from my town and that is what I would call a mini vacation for myself.

Well I was in for a rude awakening if I was thinking I was getting a vacation. My 2 weeks was worse than having to work for those 2 weeks with no pay. Our classes started at 8 in the morning and ended at 6 at night.

One chapter I will never forget is term life insurance. We studied on that chapter for 3 days and at the end of the 3rd day we had a test over just term life insurance.

I hate to admit this, but to this day I am still puzzled with the term life insurance of what is the true meaning. I know it is a life insurance policy which provides a stated benefit upon that person’s death, but then it says providing that the death occurs within a certain specified time period.

When I first read that for a meaning, I was thinking does that mean you put a time limit on someone that is going to die. I wondered just how many people looked into term life insurance, or would they just get quotes on the cost of it and compare it just life insurance.

I remember one time during this class, our assignment was to go to an agent that sold life insurance and you were suppose to get a free quote on your own life. You had to tell them how your health was, if you had any pre-existing conditions, if you smoked, or did you drink, basically all kinds of health questions your doctor would ask for an exam.

Well to make a long story short, I never did pass the class, so that meant I never got my insurance license for my job. That was really okay with me, because I really didn’t want to be an agent for insurance. I wanted to be a computer programmer, and was just working this job just to make extra money. As it turned out, after the 2nd year, this place closed down and all the people that were licensed agents had trouble finding another job in their field, because the next company wanted to train them different.

Now you have my whole life history in one short story, but I am still happy and enjoying life without any term life insurance.
